2012 Nissan Frontier SV

This week at Vestal Buick GMC we feature a 2012 Nissan Frontier SV. US News ranked the 2012 Frontier Number 3 out of all the compact pickups within its class. They gave it an overall rating of 8.5 and a cost to own rating of 8.9. Now those are some ratings that will make any vehicle manufacturer happy. The standard Nissan Frontier came with a 4 cylinder engine, but US News suggested to its readers that they upgrade to the more robust V6. That is the engine we have in our Fontier Nissan we are featuring for our Must See Monday.

This clean sharp looking truck offers a 261 horsepower, 4.0 L liter V6 DOHC engine with variable valve timing, along with a 6 speed manual transmission. The truck is rated for a 6500 lb towing capacity and only has 36,761 miles.

2012 Nissan Frontier SVSome of the nice safety features available on this truck include ABS, traction control, curtain airbags, passenger airbag and stability control. Additional items include air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, 4 doors, cd player, AUX, bed liner, key-less entry and more! 2012 Fiat 500 Sport

The Fiat 500 Sport could be called a car that is a throw back to the 60’s. Why is that? Well, it was in the 60’s that Fiat first introduced us to the Fiat 500 Sport. It was equipped with a 500 cc engine which I am sure gave it great gas mileage back then, However, gas was pretty cheap in 1960 so that was not really an issue when it came to car buying. Today that is another story. Gas is rather expensive and the Fiat 500 is back. It’s back with a larger engine, but still providing great gas mileage. Rather than having 500cc engine, the Fiat 500 now has a 1400 cc engine with a 16 valve computerized fuel injection engine. This provides the car with 100 horsepower.

While the Fiat 500 isn’t a car for everyone, it is a car for those looking for a car with a fun to drive factor. One of the first things to stand out about the Fiat 500 is it’s size. The 500 Sport is one of the smallest cars sold in the U.S. and yet many report they enjoy the interior legroom available. I don’t think Shaquille O’Neal was included in this survey.

So why do people like th Fiat 500 Sport. Most people like the 500 for both it’s character and price. What is really interesting about the 500 Sport is it’s safety rating. Despite it’s small size the Fiat 500 was named top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a 4 star rating out of a 5 star rating. Pretty amazing for a car of this size.

If you are looking for a Fiat 500 Sport then we invite you to come by and check out our 2012 500 Sport available at Vestal Buick GMC. If the Sport doesn’t interest you check out our nice selection of used cars in Kernersville, NC by clicking on the link.

Time to Buy Tires?

The Video above has many helpful tips.  However, be aware that the penny test while good, is not the only thing to consider.  The age of the tire is an important factor when considering tire replacement.

tiresWhen was the last time you really looked at your tires? How many times have you gotten into your car without really checking them? If you are like me, I may glance at my tires but I don’t really examin them often. Glancing at your tires to know if it is time to buy is not really good enough. The NTSB recommends that tires be replaced every six years regardless of how the tire may look. If it is time to buy tires here are few things you may want to think about before you purchase.

Tire Size

The very first thing you want to consider when looking for new tires is the size of the tires needed. When it comes to tire size you really want to go with the manufacturers recommended suggestions. The vehicle manufacturer has tested what tires are best for your vehicles handling and safety. That being said it only makes since to select a tire that is within these specifications. Some tire retail stores will only mount tires that are recommended for the vehicle you are putting them on.

What do the numbers mean

You no doubt have seen the numbers on your tire that look something like this p225/60/R16, what do these numbers mean? The first number is telling you the width of the tires in millimeters. In this example the width is 22.5 millimeters. The sencond number 60 is telling us the aspect ratio. This the ratio of width to height. The number 60 is telling us that this tire has a 60% height to width ratio. The R in this example stands for radial construction and the 16 is the wheel diameter in inches.

Other Lettering

You may also see other lettering or numbers on the tire. These have to do with load index and speed rating. Load index is the weight the tire is certified to carry under maximum inflation. You never want to purchase a tire with a load index less than the orginal vehicle’s tire. Speed index is the top speed your tire can operate at safely. Usually, many times more that you can safely drive.

Buying new tires? Here’s how to make the smartest decision | Driving

http://driving.ca/auto-news/news/buying-new-tires-heres-how-to-choose-wiselyBuying new tires? Here’s how to make the smartest decision | Driving Which manufacturer to choose? If you haven’t been tire shopping in a while, you may be surprised at the number of tire manufacturers out there. There is a wide selection of new off-shore, often Asian sourced tires and while many of these don’t rate high recommendations from consumer testing organizations, they have had a positive effect on the market. Mainstream national and international brands have become extremely competitive in the face of cheaper off-shore products. When it’s you and your family’s life and safety on the line, choose wisely. Consumer Reports picked Michelin as the best brand, followed by Continental, Goodyear, and Pirelli. Tied for the fifth spot were Hankook, Cooper, Nokian, and Yokohama.

Something You Need to Know About Tires

A new problem that has recently come to light in tire manufacturing is counterfeit tires coming into the U.S. from China. This is a serious problem. While the size of your tires is important, the composition of the tire, what the tire is made of, is the integrity of the tire. Tires made from poor quality material to cut cost can be a real hazard to you and your family. Now we come to the question of how do you make sure your tires are legit. Well this really rest with the retailer of the tire, to make sure that they purchase tires from reputable manufacturers. If you are concerned about the tires that you have purchased you may want to look at this article from Consumer Reports on counterfeit Tires.

When it comes to safety, “the composition of the tire is really more important than the mold,” said Clarence Ditlow, executive director of the Center for Auto Safety, a longtime car safety advocate and former member of Consumer Reports’ board of directors. (Read More)
